san francisco's doomed

my sister finally booked our room, so i am truly excited for our trip now. i feel kind of bad that i invited her in such a half-assed fashion so i am trying to make up for it by making it more "our" trip than "my marked men weekend that you can split plane/hotel reservations with me--otherwise you're on your own".

i am making some cd's for a friend in desperate need of new music. i would normally not have this advantage over anyone, especially in the last six years, so i am taking full advantage of my five minutes of semi-coolness. it's not even really "new" music which is the funnier part of it. anyhow, crime is one of the bands i am sending over, i don't think he has heard them yet.

i have a bunch of other stuff to send out. in the post-college years, the mail dispatch has really suffered. the post office isn't that far, but it isn't as convenient either. i have tons of padded envelopes at the ready, just no motivation to hit up the p.o. i am getting the lead out for this lad, and the ladies ahead of him in line who are long overdue for some mail attention.

hop til you drop

i am surprised at how much easter has managed to kick my butt. almost as much as christmas.

we are supposed to be at my cousin's house already, but i am still in my pj's and my sister is barely getting in the shower. we had scramble and smoothies for brunch. both turned out awesome.

i gave my niece her easter basket and we each had a chocolate bunny from lake champlain, so delicious. i waited too long to get these and had to 2nd day air them. they were perfectly packaged and in absolutely no danger of melting. i was kind of freaking out because it was really warm the past few days, not to worry.

yesterday we went to the walk for water. it was great. i think there were 1000 people, which was the most they have had in the last four years. next year will be bigger and better. we got free t-shirts and water bottles.

afterward we went to rfd for my sister's birthday lunch. it was really fabulous, especially the coconut white cake. i made the right choice.

following that was a quick run to whole foods and guess what? they still had some lake champlain bunnies. oops.

i need to make myself some tea and hop to it. happy easter!

sophomore

when i made this the other day i knew i would want to make it again very soon. i thought i could wait until the weekend and my sister warned me not to kill it. but when she called me at work i asked her what to make for my niece for dinner and she said scramble. i can't argue with that.

here is the picture i would have taken last time, were i not in such a hurry to chow down.

this is my new thing, ranchero scramble with tortilla land tortillas (almost like home made) and a huge glass of chocolate silk light.

i have an appointment with dr.jameson tonight. i think all of this fighting off of everyone else's cold for the past few weeks is starting to wear on me. take two of those and don't call in the morning.

retraction

i take back all of the mean and snobby things i said about this little library when i walked in here all those months ago. i have found a lot of awesome materials here and within the county system. shame on you k.g. shame on you.

my newest excitement is that you can check out exercise dvd's and they are free because they are educational. not only that, you can check them out for a week, which is quite a boon since regular movies are either one or three day loans at a buck fifty each. i am tempted to try the knitting dvd's, maybe in summer when it is too hot to be outside and i have time to screw up enough winter scarves i don't need yet.

as much as i love coming here, i may need to ease up a bit. but then again, "too much of a good thing can be wonderful" according to ms. west.

game on

i go through these phases where i am just really off. that's the "best" way i can explain it.

i am on an upswing though and feeling better about a lot of things.

most of what i am not happy about, i can change, some things more easily than others, but still things i can work at or move away from. whoa serenity prayer.

i think a lot of it is from not exercising anymore. it's not just that certain clothes don't fit as well or i don't feel as attractive in what does fit. i think it's more to do with endorphins and not getting oxygen to my brain which gets way too cloudy sometimes.

i should be able to get some good walks going in this warmer weather, but it needn't be as warm as it has been the last few days. save some for summer, please.

p.s. no food pics lately because apparently i started kitchen wars '08 with all of my enthusiasm. i should be on the offensive again sometime next week, if not sooner.

my-brary

The library was so great today. Triple nerd score. I checked out a few new books, put some on hold to be pulled from other branches, and got some rad things from the "friends" store. So I guess I am not mad at whomever recalled the laurie notaro book because if I was able to keep it for three more weeks, I might not have come away with all this.

new check outs:

My sister, guard your veil; my brother, guard your eyes : uncensored Iranian voices (marjane satrapi is in it!)

33 things every girl should know about women's history : from suffragettes to skirt lengths to the E.R.A (fun and educational, i'm on it)

From girls to grrrlz : a history of o+ comics from teens to zines (i checked this out before and didn't get to read it)

hopefully these make their way to my branch really soon:

The Mediterranean vegan kitchen: meat-free, egg-free, dairy-free dishes from the healthiet place under the sun

Vegetables rock! : a complete guide for teenage vegetarians

The Craftster guide to nifty, thrifty, and kitschy crafts : fifty fabulous projects from the fifties and sixties

95 pounds of hope

Fly solo : the 50 best places on earth for a girl to travel alone

and last but not least, here is my ninety-five cents worth of awesome:

Nikki & David Goldbeck's American Whole Foods Cuisine

The National Civil Rights Museum Celebrates Everyday People

Favorite Recipes Quaker Oat Bran Hot Cereal

A Year of Beauty & Health by Beverly & Vidal Sassoon

I cannot wait to go to the national civil rights museum. I am still really embarassed that I did not know it existed until today, but I will make up for it by telling everyone else about it.

chick it out

i did some easter shopping at lunch today. i didn't plan on it, but i had to do something while my friend waited for someone to come to the photo counter at walgreen's. i found a few really rad things i know my niece will love.

i got her a bunch of wind up toys at halloween and she loved them so i found some great easter counterparts. i also got two play-doh's, one chick and one bunny, and a pull back bunny on wheels that goes forward, does a loop and zooms back at you. i have to get another one of those because it's quite awesome.

i am not really a fan of easter, but i will take any excuse to spoil my niece. i have a cat's cradle book/string set i forgot to give her at valentine's day so add that and a chocolate bunny from sjaak's and i should be done. which is a good thing because as much as i love to shop, trying to decide between chicks or bunnies/pink or purple, is starting to wear on me.

speaking of wear, i need to find my purple bunny ears from last year. haha.

reservations

there's nothing like booking a plane ticket, even if it is on coach, even if only for a flight that lasts just over an hour. anytime you can get out of town for a few days is a great time.

countdown is on.

i never need an excuse to go to san francisco, but here are a few: skipping to oakland to see bt, brunch at herbivore, a few rounds at zeitgeist, new pair of chinese slippers, oh and this little band from tejas called the marked men will be there too.

it's gonna be a quickie, but sometimes those are just as good, at least that's what i hear.
