family=history?

Sometimes I don't know how much of a blessing it is to be one of the few people in my family without a major health problem. I know I am very lucky to not have their complications/problems but soon enough their problems are going to be my problems too and I don't know who else is going to be well/strong enough to help me deal with all of it. I don't even know where to start.

Both sides have high blood pressure. Dad's family has arthritis and diabetes. Right now my mom is dealing w/ degenerative joint disease, a heel spur and menopause, so as if the fact that she has trouble walking were not enough, even if she could she wouldn't break into a trot only to give her hot flash a boost. My dad is borderline diabetic and has Gird's, of course he is not doing anything to try to help either issue. My niece is asthmatic, they think she might have Cystic Fibrosis or something else going on because she keeps getting sick. My aunt just called yesterday to tell her sister it is very likely she has or will have heart disease. My sister and brother both have ridiculous allergies, oddly enough they were the only two kids my mom nursed, which supposedly gives them better immunity and so on and yet my bottle-fed self managed to kick all of that stuff.

Bearing all of this in mind, the crooked teeth, poor eyesight, lack of height and bad skin, don't seem so bad anymore.

I know a lot of these things supposedly run in the family but I honestly think (yeah
you are smarter than all the scientists) it has more to do with habits than heredity. I heard Olmos talk about Latinos and Diabetes, could all of the rice, pan dulce and tortillas de harina have anything to do with it? Don't let's even get started on the cerveza. I really think it has a lot more to do with jeans than genes and poor eating/exercise behaviors being passed down over time. Hopefully I'm right for once.

I gotta go downtown and see the Santo Nino, I can't bear for that baby to be sick anymore.
